How has your mum inspired you? What mum stuff have you taken from her?

My amazing mum had a heart of gold and brought a continuous abundance of joy, positivity, love, kindness and a zest for life in everything she did. She was and still is a continual source of inspiration, always putting family first, never doubting that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, and always being there, motivating and encouraging me to be the very best person I could be.

I'd like to think that my mum's traits have rubbed off on me and I have become a daughter she could have been proud of. I certainly attribute my entrepreneurial skills to my mum - she had a fantastic business head on her!

How would you describe your babies?

Six amazing, awe inspiring individuals whom I love endlessly.

How has having babies changed your life?

I feel truly blessed to have six healthy, happy children and I thank God for bringing them into my life. They say that once a baby comes along you can't really ever imagine life without them, and that's certainly the case - I cannot imagine how my life would have panned out without my crazy brood! They are all unique and are a force to be reckoned with!

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

Thank you for being the BEST role model EVER, I love and miss you every day.

How would you describe your babies?

Loving, wise, sparkly, crazy and wild, opposites, knowing, free, gentle, spiritual, fire in their eyes and bellies.

How has having babies changed your life?

Made me stronger, made me able to fight my battles easier, made me want to provide a good moral teaching to them, made me have a real look and think about what is important, made me think about what I say and how it could be perceived, made me love in different ways, made me see my husband in a different light, and see him as even more of a strong, powerful soul. It's also made me proud of who I am.

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

Thank you for teaching me to love in the best way that I can. Thank you for teaching me to help others and know right from wrong, thank you for teaching me how to be the best mummy I can be. Thank you for being the best nana to Sylv and Franks. Love you.

What is your favourite memory of your daughter as a baby?

My favourite memory of Molly is her being soooo cuddly like a monkey on my chest.

Flippin hard work as I had 3 boys all under 4! They kind of all merged into one lovely baby monster! 😂

How has having babies changed your life?

I lost myself when I had my boys. I suffered with crippling pnd each time and it nearly killed me. Hitting rock bottom changed me forever and when I survived I realised I had nothing left to fear. This is why I am going for my dreams as a 40 something mum!

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

Thank you for all you did for me. Thank you for the sacrifices you gave for me. Thank you for teaching me how to be kind and love others. Thank you for showing me how to face adversity whilst rocking an incredible red lip (just like you did)

What is your favourite memory of your daughter as a baby?

She never slept she was so cheeky and noisy! She chewed that dummy like crazy! She was my joy. My firstborn. She was so alert and started talking at 8 months!!!!!

In 3 words, what was it like seeing your baby have her own babies?

Heaven and earth and the unexplainable.

Do your daughter's babies resemble her as a baby?

The eldest has her round face and dark eyes. But her Middle boy is more like her in character he is strong willed, determined and a deep thinker like her.

What did your daughter want to be when 'she grew up'?

She had so many personalities and was always playing dress up. She wanted to be an actor! All her teachers said "Mrs Michael your daughter needs to be on the stage!"

My mum is an incredibly strong and outspoken woman, so she's really taught me to be confident speaking out in any situation I see as unjust, and to stand up for myself. She raised me as a feminist, and taught me to do this same for my daughter.

How would you describe your baby?

My daughter was a classic easy baby - smily, giggly, content. She made us laugh, was always up for a cuddle and showed such kindness from really early on. Although, after a slow, sleepy start, she gave up sleeping at regular intervals!

How has having a baby changed your life?

She'll always steer me - no matter what I'm doing, it's her I'll be thinking of.

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

I'd thank my mum for being so unerringly supportive, compassionate and loving. It meant the knocks in life never floored me and I came back fighting every time.

What is your favourite memory of your daughter as a baby?

Gosh there are so many, I guess one of them was ... we went to a lunch with friends who had two massive Great Danes, Grace was just about early crawling stage, she sat giggling as these two dogs towered above her dribbling. she was completely fearless.

Joyous, wonderful and exciting; we are totally besotted with her and her little one.

Does your daughter's baby resemble her as a baby?

Goodness yes so much, they are so alike in looks, in humour, in affection, and they certainly both have the most amazing imagination... making up brilliant stories and games. They also share the warmest, kindest, biggest hearts.

What did your daughter want to be when 'she grew up'?

Think it varied, a vet although that was short lived as we had three dogs and numerous cats and the reality kicked in very quickly, an actress at one point, mainly a writer though.

Oh my goodness my life changed dramatically. I don't think anyone can prepare you for the change. I wasn't ready for the change when I had Jude but over time I got used to it and started to love my new life. It's an amazing change but it's a big one!! You go from wanting to go shopping on a Saturday to wanting to go spend 4 hours in soft play on a Saturday 🤣

Thank you for always being there for me and the boys, you always put us first no matter what.

Honestly, in every way possible. She's the most patient, kind hearted woman I know. She's been there for me every step of the way, from hospital stays, heartbreaks or when I became a mum to my daughters. She's always there to lend a helping hand in any way she can - and if I turn out to be even half of the woman she is, I'll be utterly chuffed. She super mum/nanny in my eyes.

How would you describe your babies?

My eldest Evangeline is the sweetest, she's kind and compassionate - she has such a caring heart, we call her a mini mummy as she loves helping with her sister. She's very sassy and know what she wants - just like her mummy! My youngest Florance, is the polar opposite; she's cheeky, feisty and ever so mischievous. She loves cuddles and being the centre of attention. Their completely opposite, like chalk and cheese - but their bond is incredible.

How has having babies changed your life?

In every way possible. From friends, image, routine to fears. But although everything has changed, I'm much happier and content now. The girls changed my life in the most positive way possible.

My Mother has inspired me in so many ways. To show resilience through the most difficult of times, to smile and show love to all those around me. My Mum always used to sing to us when we were younger, now I sing to Indigo constantly!

Firstly, Indi gave me the gift of feeling love in the most purest form. I can't even describe the love I have for him! I also think to myself all the time 'what on Earth did I do before having a baby?!' I used to think I was busy 😂‚ now I really know what busy means aha! He also changed my life by giving me the strength to realise what is important and to begin to let go of things that don't make me feel like sunshine. I only want positive energy around Indigo ❤️

Storie is such a mix of the two of us. He's very chilled out, and laid back like his dad, very rarely cries unless he really wants something however he also has a very out there personality shining through already like me and he doesn't miss a thing. He is so loving and happy all the day. He's been a dream baby since day dot.

How has having a baby changed your life?

Storie slipped into my husband and i's life like a missing puzzle. He comes everywhere with me since the day he was born and brightens up every single day. When I have a bad day, his smile makes us forget all about it. I always have to plan my days now and prepare the night before instead of just getting up and go & Coffee/Lunch dates won't ever be as peaceful ?‚ but he's taught me so much in a year and he's made me a better woman by being his mummy!

I would say thank you for doing everything she did for me, always putting me before herself and bringing me up with the respect and morals she did And for showing me how to be the best mother I can be for my boy.

I wish I could narrow it down to one but i have a million favourite memories of her as a baby, but the day she was born and the feeling of having a daughter was my all time favourite memory.

My Mum inspires me everyday. She is devoted to us all (there are 3 of us) and will always be there when we need us in person or over the phone. She's away at the moment and I am really missing being able to pick up the phone! She's definitely my best friend. She's shown me that you can be an amazing Mum, you can work and look after friends.

How would you describe your babies?

Amelie is 4 and Evie 2, they were both very different babies. Amelie never slept and I mean never, I used to walk the streets of London all day so she'd sleep. I also don't think I slept for about two years! Evie was so different, she slept (it was a miracle) and was so chilled. Now they're older they've almost swapped again - Amelie is very calm, Evie keeps me on my toes!

How has having babies changed your life?

It's changed my life massively. Not only have I gained two amazing little girls who I would do anything for and love so much it's changed what's important to me and my career. I left my job as a Business Director at a media agency after Evie for lots of reasons and found myself blogging and setting up a consultancy business - something I would have never had the confidence to do before, but I had to make it work for them.

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

Everything, but especially thank you for raising me to know right from wrong, to know how to be kind and to help other people. I hope if there is one thing I can teach the girls it's how to be kind and a good person - the world needs more of that ❤️

What is your favourite memory of your daughter as a baby?

On holiday in Bex Hill on sea. We sat Sarah in the corner of the sofa propped up with cushions and took a photo. Sarah had a lovely smile - always remember that moment and photo.

Immensely! Watching my mum with Albee in the early days helped me learn so much. Seeing how calm she was with him and learning different wants to settle him and burp him, really helped me understand so many elements of being a mother.

Having Otis has changed everything. Things that I found simple before are more complicated with a baby. Just leaving the house is harder, not to mention the steps up to our front door which I never minded before, but are now an issue for our buggy.

Thank you for your quirky sense of style, and your laid back attitude to parenting.

Amanda was always such a happy baby. She was a great eater and sleeper which made things easier for me while looking after two under two at the time.

Emotional, Joyful, Grateful.

Bits of him does. He has Amanda's eye shape, and ears. Otis is bright and happy and always smiling and laughing and his determination is very much like his mother.

She went through phases of wanting to be a nurse and helping others, but she always had great creative flair and wanted to be a fashion designer which she is now.

Life-changing, in love but tired

How would you describe your babies?

My two girls are my absolute world, I have Violet who is 2 and turning into such a cute little person, she grows and changes every day! She's kind, affectionate and sweet with a cheeky side! Pearl is six months, she is the most chilled baby in the world! They can do anything if they put their mind to it!

How has having babies changed your life?

They have turned my life upside down! Babies change everything, but in a good way. I've never known the pure love and adoration of looking at your own child until I had my own. The social life and relaxing holidays are on the back burner at the moment but they are worth it!

What are the three main things you want your babies to remember as the grow up and go out into the world?

To believe in themselves and know they are totally worth it.
They can do anything if they put their mind to it!

We asked Rachel:

How has your mum inspired you? What mum stuff have you taken from her?

My mum is a tough cookie, she didn’t have it easy when my sister and I were growing up and she did a lot of it single-handedly without any friends or family around for support. She doesn’t take any nonsense and is a force to be reckoned with, it’s most certainly where I got my stoicism from that gets me through those ground-hog days. I’ve taken a lot of parenting skills from her, particularly the practical things, but we also have a lot of differences, too. I’m an avid breast feeder, love to co-sleep and I wont use the cry-it-out method, where as Mum liked to use more traditional parenting methods, it’s a generation thing I guess, but she respects my wishes and I’m always open to her ideas.

JOYOUS, EMPOWERING, FULFILLING. Definitely not glamorous!

How would you describe your babies?

Happy, and to me, above everything, that’s all that truly matters; it gives me the confirmation that I’m bossing motherhood despite my struggles. They have a myriad of qualities between them, but together they are all content, want-for-nothing, cheeky, totally brazen and sometimes overly confident and I wouldn’t have them any other way. Except maybe eating their veggies.

How has having babies changed your life?

My babies have all been nothing short of a miracle and I’ve defied the odds being able to carry and give birth to them relatively complication-free despite the huge risks to myself. Having a progressive lung disease with only 24% lung function remaining I know my time with them is limited and immensely precious. It’s easier said than done when you’re on the treadmill of life making your way through the never ending fog of nappies, breastfeeding, laundry and meal-planning (even more so on the days where I’m really struggling with my breathing), but I try to make the most of every day with them, escaping the house when we can to forge memories for them to forever look back on. Despite my prognosis, I’m happy, upbeat, fierce and the moments of depression are only fleeting and I owe that to the kids, they give me the reason to get out of bed in the morning, to carry on.

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

For being there unconditionally, not just for me, but for her Grandchildren, too. I don’t think there’s anything she wouldn’t do for us, and that’s the true meaning of motherhood.

What is your favourite memory of your daughter as a baby?

After 30 years I still remember that giggle and smile, so it’d have to be that.

In 3 words, what was it like seeing your baby have her own babies?

Yes, absolutely, but Louis more so than the other two, it’s uncanny, he’s definitely a mini Rachel.

What did your daughter want to be when 'she grew up'?

A singer and a dancer! Rachel used to sing all the time, she’s always been able to sing and was apart of the school choir growing up singing in several events and alongside orchestras on occasion. Despite her lung disease and limited function, she still has an incredible voice.

She advises and doesn’t lecture me. She lets me make my own mistakes. She always ensured we were well dressed (even if I sometimes had to match with my little sister!) and my love for fashion had continued.

My sons are my absolute world, I have a close bond with them both. They are loving and happy little boys. Riley is clever, kind and considerate. Myles is an adorable and cheeky little monkey.

It has made me be more considerate and selfless. My boys help me to stay focused and working hard is all for them and the lifestyle we live.

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

I would like to say thank you to my mum for being a strong women and letting me be independent but always knowing she is there for me.

We used to take her for a ride on the hoover as she loved riding round on it, she used to laugh and giggle.

Riley has her temperament, cleverness and loves to read just like his mum. Myles is still too young but I’m sure he will pick up some good traits.

She wanted to go in the Navy and attended Sea Cadets. Very different to a lawyer!

Sullivan is sensitive, caring and loving and very smart with the memory of an elephant! Cassidy is so laid back and happy with an absolutely infectious smile. Mallory was small but is now mighty; a strong mischievous and hilarious little lady! Ellis is sweet and squishy very clever and cheeky and absolutely loves her food!

How has having babies changed your life?

Sullivan made me a mum and all of my dreams came true after years of struggle but when the girls came along it took motherhood to a whole other level super challenging in every way it has been the hardest time of my life and taught me a lot about myself lots of highs and lows but I wouldn’t change it for the world

Oh my Hunter is so happy, always has a big smile on his face. With everything his been though his my hero.

With having Hunter I have been though things I couldn’t even imagine. I sit there and think just over a year ago no way would I think I could do this. His made me a stronger and better person.

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

The one thing I would thank my mom for. Is for being there, from the day I announced my pregnancy, taking me back home and sticking by my side.. when it felt like no one else did. Also being by my side and keeping me so calm while I was bringing my little boy into the world.

A super charged, happy go lucky boy who gets away with everything because he’s so gorgeous!

I no longer have my own routine, he dictates our day! My handbag now always has a packet of baby wipes and some squished raisins lurking in the bottom! And dry shampoo and beanie hats have been a daily essential!

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

For raising me to be a strong independent mother, it’s the hardest job in the world and she has been the best example for me to lead by on this crazy journey.

Her 1st Christmas when she was just 4 weeks old, looking perfectly beautiful like a doll, it was the best Christmas present I could ever ask for.

Entirely. My focus is on Sonny. This makes me feel calmer and stronger in my choices, because I have to filter out what I want and what I have time for. Even though it’s knackering and chaotic at times, I appreciate everything more now. Times with Sonny, work, an uninterrupted shower, warm cup of tea..... it’s brilliant. He’s given more heart and confidence in myself.

For liking me. I felt more than love my mum liked me. This helped me to like myself and feel confident no matter what. I’ll carry this forever 💛

My mum always grounds me, when I'm getting in a bit of a kerfuffle she reminds me that the little things dont matter, especially when it comes to parenting. As long as baby is happy (or in my case babies!) that's all that matters.

All of my babies are funny, and have had a sense of humour from a young age! They also have a crazy streak. Iris and Roux are really affectionate and love cuddles. Mila and Etti are more independent. Both sets also have an amazing bond with each other which I love, and they all love their food, and dogs!

How has having babies changed your life?

Having babies has made me see everything with a different perspective, at first it was difficult accepting this new person that had so much to juggle, but I've come to love life as a mum and it's so rewarding having these little people that rely on me for everything.

Thank you for being strong when my dad left, for sacrificing everything to make sure we were happy, and for raising us with values that we can pass on to our own children.

Yes! All four of them have certain features that she has, Etti has her mischievous smile, Mila and Iris have the exact same hair that she did when she was a baby. And Roux has her temper!

She wanted to be a vet! She was so obsessed with animals and watched animal documentaries from when she was young, funnily enough she never wanted to be a mum.

My mum has inspired me more than I ever thought possible. My father walked out on us for another woman when I was 4, my sister was 6 and my brother was 1. She protected us from her pain as my siblings and I only remember her smiling and making everything fun - even when we were living on a shoestring. Her strength, courage and wisdom is priceless. She is a living superhero and I hope I have taken these attributes from her too.

How would you describe your babies?

Basil is an old soul. He is almost 7 and very wise and loves the ladies. He reminds me of my grandfather. He likes to sit down and write stories (that are actually very good) and he’s extremely helpful with his younger brother Sonny, who I think will become an actor or singer. Sonny loves to make people laugh and he’s always singing/dancing and generally always has a smile on his face.

How has having babies changed your life?

It’s made my life a lot busier, messier and extremely challenging at times. At the same time, becoming a mother has made me stronger, more passionate and a feeling of having a purpose in life. It’s also made me look at myself - my personality. Being a mother has taught me to be more patient and understanding. I have learnt that my wellbeing may not be first in line, but it’s a damn good second!

For choosing me as her daughter. I’m a very lucky girl.

Oh my gosh, she’s now two years old and she’s funny, kind, strong willed, clever, creative...I could go on forever.

How has having a baby changed your life?

Since I’ve had her, apart from the odd freelance day in the Gurgle magazine office, I’ve rarely spent a day away from her, I work during her nap times and built a business with her on my hip when she was seven months old. Having her has made me more determined, more confident...and more tired lots of the time!

If you could say thank you to your mum for something what would it be?

My mum does so much for me and my little girl, we have so much to thank her for. She works for me two days a week on Happy Decs, my wall sticker business, she drops everything to look after G if I need her and she’s just gives me constant reassurance that I’m doing a good job at being a mum!

Our first family holiday, we went to spain when she was five months old. Lovely memories.
