control pod orientation
battery advice
ewan's control pod can be found in his tummy, firstly remove the control pod from the Velcro pocket in ewan’s tummy and charge the control pod using the USB cable provided, NEVER charge it inside ewan, DO NOT use lightning or fast charge cables as these are not supported. The USB cable is short to comply with BS EN 71-1/2/3/9 for your child’s safety. When fully charged the charge indicator light will turn GREEN. While charging it will be RED. When low on charge it will FLASH RED when any of the buttons are pressed. (NEVER charge the control pod inside ewan’s plush).
If ewan behaves in any of the following ways, his pod battery may need charging:
• Charge indicator light flashing RED.
• Sounds play for a short period of time or suddenly cut out.
• Sounds are distorted.
• Sounds have become quiet, even though switched to loud setting.
• Light doesn’t glow, even though it is switched on.
• Light starts to flash on and off.
• The sensitivity of the smartCRY sensor reduces or completely fails to work.
When charging battery, please follow the same procedure outlined in the set up. Make sure you remove the pod from the charger when it is fully charged, this is indicated by the charge indicator light turning green.
• NEVER charge the control pod inside ewan.
• ONLY use the USB charge cable provided. DO NOT use lightning/fast charge cables as they are not supported.
• The USB cable is short to comply with BS EN 71-1/2/3/9 safety standards for your child’s safety.
secure the pod
Grab your pod and open ewan's tummy, locate the two velcro straps. Secure the control pod into ewan’s tummy pocket using the thin Velcro strap through the tether hole on the bottom of the pod: the thin Velcro strap is sewn inside ewan’s tummy pocket and is located near his rear. Position the control pod into the tummy pocket, making sure that the moon button faces outwards and the light probe points towards the chest. Fasten ewan's tummy.
4turn ON/OFF
ewan Deluxe has single button activation, it is moon shape and found on the top of the control pod. Press this to switch ewan ON. The moon button can be pressed through ewan’s tummy making it easy for your child to self soothe. This same button is pushed to turn OFF the sounds at any time without the need to remove the pod from ewan’s tummy.
NOTE: If your pod re-activates you may have your cry sensor active. Please see point 4 for help to deactivate the cry sensor.

what is the smartCry sensor?
The smartCRY sensor is an intelligent feature in the Ewan Deluxe that listens for your baby’s cries or sudden loud noises. When it detects a sound that may disturb your baby, it automatically activates to play your chosen soothing sounds and light settings. After playing, it returns to "listening mode," ensuring continuous monitoring for your baby’s comfort and peace.
Key Features of the smartCRY Sensor:
- Responds specifically to crying or sharp noises.
- Automatically plays your selected sounds and light for a preset playback duration.
- Ensures your baby (and you!) enjoy a restful sleep.
- Works best when placed within 1 metre of your baby.
activating the smartCry sensor
1.) Locate the Cry Sensor button on the side of Ewan’s pod.
2.) Press the button once. You’ll hear 1 beep, confirming the sensor is ON.
3.) Ewan will now monitor your baby, activating whenever they cry or hear loud noises.
Pro Tip: For optimal performance, ensure Ewan is less than 1 metre away from your baby.
how the smartCry sensor works
de-activating the smartCry sensor/normal mode
To turn off the smartCRY sensor:
- Press the Cry Sensor button on the side of the pod.
- Three beeps will confirm the sensor is OFF.
Important Note: The smartCRY sensor should be turned OFF if you’re using continuous playback mode.
How Does Normal Mode Work?
In Normal Mode, Ewan Deluxe operates without the smartCRY sensor. You can:
- Press the moon button to start sounds and lights manually.
- Both will automatically turn off at the end of your preset playback period.
- To stop sounds early, press the moon button while they’re playing. The light will also turn off simultaneously unless it’s set to play independently.
Can I Use Ewan Manually Without the smartCRY Sensor?
Yes, you can manually activate Ewan’s soothing sounds and lights without using the smartCRY sensor:
- Press and release the moon button on Ewan’s tummy.
- The sounds and light will play for your chosen playback duration.
- To stop them early, press the moon button again.
- You can also use the light independently by setting the sound volume to 0%.
What Should I Know About the smartCRY Sensor’s Sensitivity?
After charging the batteries, the smartCRY sensor may take up to a minute to recalibrate its sensitivity.
If the Cry Sensor is ON, Ewan will remain in listening mode, even after sounds or lights have stopped.
Can I Use Continuous Playback and the smartCRY Sensor Together?
No, the smartCRY sensor and continuous playback mode should not be used together. If continuous playback is activated, the Cry Sensor should be turned OFF to avoid conflicts.

How Do I Adjust the Volume on Ewan Deluxe?
Ewan Deluxe allows you to set the volume to 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, or 0% for customised sound levels that suit your baby’s needs. Follow these steps to adjust the volume:
- Ensure the sounds are playing (volume adjustments can only be made during playback) Press the Moon button on the top of the pod to do start playback.
- Press the volume control button on the pod to cycle through the six volume levels.
- Select your preferred volume level, and it will remain set until you adjust it again.
How Do I Activate the Sounds and Light?
To activate the sound and light playback:
- Press the large moon button located on the top of the pod.
- The chosen sound and light settings will play for your preset playback duration.
- To deactivate the sound and light early, press the moon button again.
Why Won’t the Moon Button Activate the Pod?
If pressing the moon button doesn’t activate the pod, check these common issues:
1.) Child Lock is On
- The Child Lock disables all buttons on the pod. Locate the Child Lock switch on the bottom of the pod and ensure it is set to OFF.
2.) The Pod Needs to Be Charged
- If the Child Lock is OFF and the pod still doesn’t activate, check the battery and recharge as needed.
Why Does the Light Come On Without Sound?
If the light activates but no sound plays:
- Check the volume level, it may be set to 0%.
Increase the volume by cycling through the settings using the volume control button.
Can I Use the Light Without Sound?
Yes, the light can be used independently by setting the volume to 0%. Press the moon button to activate the light, and it will stay on for the preset playback duration.
7change the sounds
Set your SOUND (10 sounds) preference by pushing the small buttons located on the side of the control pod. Cycle through all 10 of ewan’s sounds (5 on each button) until you find the sound that your baby prefers.

What Are the Playback Period Options?
Ewan Deluxe allows you to set your preferred Playback Period, choosing from:
- 20 minutes
- 40 minutes
- 80 minutes
- Continuous playback
This lets you customise how long the soothing sounds and lights will play for your baby.
How Do I Set the Playback Period?
To set your desired Playback Period:
1.) Ensure sound is playing (Playback Period settings can only be adjusted during playback).
2.) Locate the small buttons on the side of the control pod.
3.) Press the button to cycle through the available playback times (20 / 40 / 80 minutes / Continuous).
Your selection will stay saved until you change it again.
How Do I Start and Stop Playback?
To manually start and stop sounds:
- Press the moon button on top of the pod to start playback.
- Press the moon button again to stop playback early.
How Do I Know If Continuous Playback Is Activated?
- If no light is showing on the Playback Period Indicators, this means Continuous Playback mode is ON.
- In this mode, sound will continue playing indefinitely until manually stopped.

What Is the Child Lock Feature?
The Child Lock on Rechargeable Ewan Deluxe disables all buttons on the pod to prevent accidental changes. This is especially useful when inserting or adjusting the pod to avoid unintentionally altering your settings.
How Do I Activate or Deactivate the Child Lock?
The Child Lock switch is located on the bottom of the pod.
To activate Child Lock (disabling all buttons), slide the switch to the ON position.
To deactivate Child Lock (re-enabling all buttons), slide the switch to the OFF position.
Why Aren't the Buttons on My Rechargeable Ewan Deluxe Working?
If none of the buttons are responding, check the Child Lock switch first:
- If it’s ON, turn it OFF to restore button functionality.
- If the Child Lock is already OFF and the buttons still don’t work, your pod may need to be charged.
When Should I Use the Child Lock?
The Child Lock is most useful when:
- Inserting or adjusting the pod to prevent accidental button presses.
- Ensuring a consistent sleep routine by keeping volume and sound settings locked in place.
- Avoiding disruptions if the pod is within reach of a curious baby or toddler.
inserting batteries
You will need:
• A Cross-head Screwdriver
• 3 x AA Batteries (LR06 1.5V max)
Firstly, remove the control pod from the Velcro pocket in ewan’s tummy. Insert 3 x AA 1.5V batteries (NOT INCLUDED) into the battery compartment located on the back of the control pod. Unscrew the lid screw with a cross-head screwdriver, insert the batteries observing the correct polarity ( + / - ) as illustrated or indicated on the inside of the battery compartment, then replace the lid and screw to secure in place. Do not over-tighten screw. Reinsert the control pod securely into ewan's Velcro tummy pocket, ensuring you seal the Velcro.
TOP TIP: We highly recommend using re-chargeable batteries with ewan Deluxe. Asides from being more economical, they are more eco-friendly.
2secure the pod
Grab your pod and open ewan's tummy, locate the two velcro straps. Secure the straps around the pod and insert the pod into ewan's tummy. Fasten ewan's tummy.
3turn ON/OFF
ewan Deluxe has single button activation. Press this to switch ewan ON. The large button can be pressed through ewan’s tummy making it easy for your child to self soothe. This same button is pushed to turn OFF the sounds at any time without the need to remove the pod from ewan’s tummy.

4using the smartCRY sensor
Firstly, you'll be pleased to know any one of ewan’s sounds can be selected to play in both normal and smartCRY mode. Press and hold the main button on the pod for 3 seconds, you should hear 1 single beep - this signifies that the sensor is switched ON and ewan is listening. The smartCRY Sensor will listen out for your baby for 4 hours. If your baby stirs then ewan will activate your chosen sound. Once your baby has settled he will listen again for another 4 hours and so on. If your baby does not stir within 4 hours, the smartCRY Sensor will deactivate. To de-activate the smartCRY Sensor, press and hold the button again for 3 seconds, this time you should hear 3 simultaneous beeps - this signifies that the sensor is switched off and ewan is NOT listening.
5adjusting volume & light
Press and hold the main button on the pod to activate. Turn the Light ON/OFF by pressing the left button. Make the Volume QUIET/LOUD by pressing the right button.
6change the sounds
While activated/sound is playing double tap the main button to cycle through: harp melody, shush, rainfall, womb and vacuum cleaner sounds.
